>Potato Bag Shirt Transformation

>

Picked up this lovely/huge/baggy shirt at the “Mother of Multiples” sale for $1.00. I even have a 27 week baby bump hidden under there.
Not very cute but I liked the fabric and was hoping I could do something with it.
I haven’t tackled too may clothing projects so it took me longer than I thought. I seriously had to look up how to put a dart in clothing.  Yes-I’m an amateur at this stuff. Anyway- here’s what I ended up doing to make this shirt a bit more wearable.
And the backside…
 Turned out pretty cute!
I imagine this will be good for the Spring weather just around the corner.
I also like that it doesn’t scream, “I’m pregnant, look at my belly!”

>Garden is Growing

>Well, we did it!
Our garden vegetables are growing as I write this. My back hurts like crazy but the dang thing is done.

It was a poor sight to see this morning.
The garden had become dumping grounds for the dogs. It also served as a digging hole for Chauncey when he got bored. Needless to say, there was a lot work work to be done.
We combed it out, dug out weeds, filled the holes, de-pooped it, and mixed in a few bags of organic miracle grow.
After that we sectioned it off and planted! We ended up not doing the potatoes. They needed more space to grow than we were willing to give up.
After planting, we fenced it off to prevent the doggies from intruding. They’ll have to find somewhere else to dig and dump now. 🙂
We didn’t water it because the forecast was calling for rain. Glad we didn’t! We got lots of rain tonight. Hopefully not too much!
Hopefully healthy, organic veggies are on their way!

>Square Foot Gardening

>It’s that time of year again… planting time!

Last year, my dad helped us set up a square foot garden in our back yard. I wrote a post about it so if you want the whole story, check out this link.

Well tomorrow, Austin and I are diving in for round two. Papa Gary is in Chicago so we are on our own. And, lets be honest, I’m 26 weeks pregnant with a constant back ache so really, Austin is on his own. I’m sure I will supervise and assist excellently.

One thing that a backache CAN’T stop me from doing is planning. So that’s what I did. Here is the game-plan for our garden.

It will probably change a little bit but this is what we are thinking right now.

Last year we didn’t have much success with the spinach or carrots. We thought we’d give it one more shot. We also used onions like crazy so we thought we’d expand their property a bit. Potatoes are new on the agenda as well. I have no idea how to plant those.

I’ve been referring a lot to the website, Vegetable Gardening Online, for tips on planting. I’m sure we’ll be on that website a lot tomorrow 🙂

Happy Gardening!

>Free Thank You Cards

>I have a confession.
I love office supplies.
I could meander the aisles of Office Depot and Staples for a hobby.
Now that that’s out there- I want to share a freebie I found at Coin Purse. Free thank you cards!

Just print them off front/back on cardstock, trim them up, and you have an unlimited supply of unique-super cute thank you cards.

I already have a stash at my desk. Love freebies!

>"Time for Dinner"

>

Written Tuesday, March 15th:
An hour ago, my sister told me about this place called, “Time for Dinner.”
She described it as a place that puts together customized frozen dinners that you choose online. You then go the next day to pick them up. I was skeptical, yet, intrigued.
Since I’m heading to St. Louis tomorrow, I went on their website to see what they had to offer. I must admit, I was impressed by the menu. These were no ordinary frozen dinners.
I’m curious to see how this whole process works. I mean, can frozen meals be that good?? I’m heading there tomorrow so I’ll let you know how it goes!
To be continued…

I’m a believer!
This place rocked!
I had a completely wrong concept in my mind on what “Time for Dinner” was. Here’s how it REALLY works.

It took about an hour to assemble 6 meals. They had all of the ingredients and measuring utensils laid out when we got there. All we have to do is follow the simple instructions at each dish preparation station. We could even personalize our meals by adding more or less ingredients depending on our preference.  Only the meat is weighed and measured per order. All of the recipes are either packaged in a recyclable aluminum foil pans or plastic freezer bags that we could easily take home. They even provided us with labels with easy-to-follow cooking instructions, nutritional information, dietary points and side dish suggestions.

Here are some pictures to help you visualize the process:

On our way in to “Time for Dinner,” cooler in hand.

Three excited woman, ready to get their hands dirty!

Leslie (sister), Janny (mom), and me

So this is a picture of a food assembly station. They have all of the ingredients, utensils, the recipe and simple directions right in front of you. Cooking has never been so easy!

Here is me at my first food station- in deep concentration.

 Sisters hard at work!

Janny hopped in to help too.

Here’s a picture of my completed Chicken Spiedini.

One of the great things about this place is that there is no clean up required! You simply just move to the next station when you’re done putting together your meal.

Those top two racks are all entrees for Austin and I! Twelve meals total in my deep freeze right now! They include: Crab Ragoon Chicken, Chicken Spiedini, Caramel Apple French Toast, Beef Burgundy Stew, Bacon Wrapped Bistro Steak and Asian Pork Medallions.

Pricing for these meals weren’t all that bad. For six entree servings, it cost around 20 bucks. When you consider how many ingredients you have to go buy to make a meal like this, it seems worth it. Not to mention the ease of taking one hour to have 10-12 dinners ready to cook.
It’s safe to say, I’m probably heading back to “Time for Dinner.”

>Power Ball Cookies

>

Eat one of these and you’re guaranteed to win the lotto!  Well, maybe not, but at least you’ll enjoy a delicious, easy to make, relatively healthy cookie.  Seriously, these little orbs deliver on that promise.  My Jack (age 4) and Hannah (age 2) enjoy helping me make these every few weeks or so (and sneaking a few chocolate chips on the sly).  Then, we freeze most of them, so we don’t gorge ourselves silly on them.  Uh, did I mention they are good?  From frozen, just nuke them for 20 seconds when ready to eat.  Enjoy!
Power Ball Cookies

Makes: 30-35 cookie balls
From: My friend, Darcie

1 c peanut butter or almond butter

1 c honey
3 c old-fashioned oats (quick-cooking word fine)
1/2 c flax seed or wheat germ
1 c dark chocolate chips
1 c any combination of nuts and soft dried fruits (I used 1/2 chopped pecans and 1/2 raisins)

Blend peanut butter and honey until smooth.  Mix in oats and flax seed or wheat germ.  Add chocolate chips and dried fruit and/or nuts.  Stir until well combined.  Shape into balls and refrigerate or freeze.  (I used a cookie scoop to mold the balls.)
